Award Overview
The John Pembroke Catalyst for Change Award recognizes credit unions that are advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in meaningful, lasting ways.
Named in honor of former CUES President/CEO John Pembroke, a visionary leader known for his people-first philosophy, this award pays tribute to his legacy of mentorship, inclusion, and transformational leadership. Under his guidance, CUES became a thought leader in the industry, with DEI as a central organizational priority.
Presented annually, the award honors a credit union that has:
- Demonstrated sustained commitment to advancing DEI within its workplace.
- Raised awareness of diversity and inclusion issues.
- Been a catalyst for positive DEI change in the industry, its organization, or its community.

Who is Eligible?
Candidate credit unions must:
- Be a current CUES member during the nomination year
- Have demonstrated sustained support for raising awareness of, and subsequently advancing, DEI initiatives in their workplace, community, and/or the credit union industry.
- Have not received this recognition previously.
Applications
Applications are now open. The deadline to apply is June 13, 2025.
What Does the Winner Receive?
Prizes include:
- One complimentary registration to CUES Symposium
- In-person recognition and trophy presentation at CUES Symposium
- $1,000 to the charity of your choice
Recognition:
- In addition to the above, winners will be celebrated through:
- A featured article on cumanagment.com
- Promotion on CUES channels
- An in-person interview with CUES CEO, Heather McKissick, focusing on leadership and contributions to the credit union industry
